AI for Good Hackathon Experience
This February, we hosted an incredible AI for Good Hackathon, and it was a day full of learning, teamwork, and creativity! Middle school and high school students came together to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can solve real-world problems.
What is a Hackathon?
A hackathon is an event where people work in teams to create something amazing in a short amount of time. In our case, we focused on AI—teaching students how it works and how they can use it to make a difference.
The Day’s Adventure
We kicked off the day with inspiring talks from AI experts, including engineers, professors, and even city leaders. They explained how AI is shaping our world and how we can use it responsibly. Then, it was time for action!
Students chose from three exciting workshops:
Valley Water Flood Analysis – Using AI to analyze flood reports and weather data.
Poetry Bot – Creating a chatbot that writes fun and creative poetry.
Chatbot Creation – Learning how to build a chatbot that can answer questions and hold conversations.
Teamwork & Creativity
After the workshops, teams formed to work on their own AI-powered projects. Some groups built chatbots that could answer environmental questions, while others designed AI tools to help students learn better. Everyone had the chance to experiment, problem-solve, and think like real AI developers.
At the end of the day, teams presented their projects to a panel of judges. It was amazing to see so many unique ideas! Winners received awards, but in truth, everyone left as a winner—gaining new skills, meeting new friends, and discovering how AI can be used for good.
This hackathon was just the beginning! We hope to continue exploring AI and how it can positively impact our communities. If you missed this event, don’t worry—there will be more opportunities to learn, build, and innovate.
Thanks to all the students, mentors, and sponsors who made this event possible. We can’t wait to see what you create next!
