College Talk - 7th Youth Committee Meeting
Our seventh Youth Committee meeting on April 6 was an engaging and inspiring session, filled with thoughtful discussions about our upcoming plans, projects, and camps. We came together to reflect on the initiatives we’ve been working on and brainstorm new ideas for the months ahead. It was a productive session as we discussed everything from the finer details of our upcoming community events to the big picture goals we’re aiming to accomplish.
We also spent time talking about the various camps and activities we’ll be offering, including our exciting summer programs. The team shared updates, gave feedback, and set action steps, ensuring that everything is on track for our future projects. The enthusiasm and dedication from everyone was palpable, and it was a reminder of how much impact we can make when we work together as a committee.
Our Guest Speakers
In addition to our regular meeting agenda, we had the privilege of welcoming two outstanding 12th-grade students, Brady and Katelyn, as guest speakers. They shared their personal stories and insights into their high school experiences and the college application process. It was incredibly valuable to hear from them, as they each brought a unique perspective to the table.
Brady, who will be attending the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and Katelyn, who is headed to University of California Berkley, each took their own path throughout high school, but both offered important lessons that resonated with our members. They discussed how they discovered their passions, navigated the ups and downs of high school, and made thoughtful decisions during the college application process.
One of the key takeaways from their stories was the idea that there is no single "right" way to succeed. They emphasized the importance of exploring different interests, staying true to yourself, and remaining open to new opportunities. Both speakers shared how they balanced schoolwork, extracurriculars, and the pressure of college applications, offering practical advice on managing stress and staying organized. They highlighted the value of maintaining a healthy balance and not overloading yourself, reminding us that mental well-being is just as important as academic success.
During the Q&A session, members of our Youth Committee asked insightful questions about the college application process, and Brady and Katelyn responded with helpful and relatable advice. Their honesty and vulnerability about the challenges they faced in high school were encouraging and inspiring. Their stories reminded us that everyone’s journey is different, and that it’s okay to take your own path toward success.
As we wrapped up the meeting, there was a sense of excitement and motivation in the room. Brady and Katelyn’s visit was a perfect reminder of the power of persistence, curiosity, and staying true to oneself. Their advice and experiences will certainly inspire our Youth Committee members as we continue to plan and execute our own projects and programs.
We are grateful to Brady and Katelyn for taking the time to share their experiences with us, and we look forward to applying their insights to our own journeys. As we continue to move forward with our plans, we’re excited about what’s to come in our future Youth Committee meetings. Stay tuned for more updates and new developments in the months ahead!
